Myerscough College Agriculture and Countryside StudiesThe Agriculture Industry accounts for around 80% of Great Britain's land area, being a well established and important contributor to the national economy.
As agriculture changes, so do the skills demanded of those involved in the industry.

The farmers' main role is still, unquestionably, food production. However, a constantly changing countryside has seen many farmers diversify into a wide range of occupational activities. These include the provision of sport and rural leisure facilities for the general public, as well as the production of niche products for the market place. Farming practices have also had to take account of environmental and welfare pressures.

As a result, the technical, practical, managerial and marketing skills that are required have widened. Myerscough aims to provide courses that provide such expertise.

The college's facilities are impressive and include:

  • 433 farming hectares covering 6 holdings
  • 90 hectares of cereals
  • 56 hectares of maize
  • 280 pedigree Holstein-Fresians housed in a modern dairy unit
  • 200 dairy youngstock
  • 200 beef
  • 550 lowland ewes plus replacements
  • 20 pedigree suffolk sheep
  • woodland and conservation areas
  • a Farm Information Centre
  • facilities for trial work and research
