The
National Soil Resources Institute was founded on 1st August 2001. Located
in Bedfordshire on the Silsoe Campus of Cranfield University, it is
renowned internationally for research, education and consultancy on
sustainable soil and land management and is the centre for soil and
land information for England and Wales.
Although of recent foundation, NSRI has a well-established history
tracing back to the Soil Survey of England and Wales (founded in 1945)
and the National College of Agricultural Engineering (founded in 1960).
These organisations became part of Cranfield University in 1987 and
1975 respectively as the Soil Survey and Land Research Centre and Silsoe
College.
