Combine Peas - July

Developing pods, the pea outlines are now visible.

The tendrils of the pea crop entwine to create a huge interlinked "mat" that supports itself through poor weather.

At this stage of development the peas can be cut and frozen, usually within a couple of hours or left to mature as combine peas. Peas that are grown for freezing are known as vining peas and require specialised harvesters.
