UK Agriculture field to fridge
Combine Peas - March
Ploughing is in progress on this overwintered field having been delayed by very wet weather. Normally pea ground is ploughed before Christmas to give the soil a chance to weather and break down naturally.
Rough cloddy conditions like this will require cultivation before drilling can take place.
Drilling the crop. Peas are sown about two inches under the soil surface.
Peas are particularly sensitive to soil compaction. To the left of this picture the body of the field has already been drilled. Now the headland is being ploughed and this will be drilled shortly.
