Spring Rape - August
The small seeds of oilseed rape are held in a long pod that shatters very easily when dry. This can make the timing of combining critical.
A combine on hilly ground. Note how the header (the broad part of the combine that collects in the crop) is able to follow the ground level in the lateral plane.
The combine at the end of a row of the crop. The wide headland allows the combine and tractors to turn around.
Harvested rapeseed. Ideally there should be few red seeds in the sample. Such seeds are liable to overheat in the store and spoil the crop, lowering its value.
