Assured British Meat aims to maintain and develop credible Standards within the red meat industry covering food safety, animal welfare and environmental protection. It promotes integrated beef and lamb assurance to provide consumers and retailers with confidence about product safety.

Assured British Meat helps represent the beef and lamb assurance sector by:

• Setting beef and lamb assurance standards throughout the whole chain (farm, transport, markets and abattoirs).
  
• Licencing standards to various Certification Bodies (who will inspect and certify against them) and ensuring consistent delivery of assurance across all providers.
  
• Maintaining a central database of all procedures and businesses certified against the ABM standards.
  
• Promoting the benefits of assurance to both producers and businesses within the beef and lamb supply chain (including speaking engagements) to external bodies such as Government, NGO’s, Consumer organisations, etc.
  
• Encouraging producers and businesses to participate in assurance by applying to a Certification Body.
  
• Working with Assured Food Standards (AFS) and the devolved beef and lamb bodies to develop a commonly accepted set of standards.
  
• Dealing with general enquiries relating to beef and lamb assurance.
