Assured
British Meat (ABM) was the "umbrella" organisation overseeing pig and
ruminant Quality Assurance schemes, but now pigs and ruminants have
independent schemes. The ABP pig scheme takes responsibility for the
pig sector providing one link in an integrated assurance chain. This
has the objective of providing effective assurance to internationally
recognised standards throughout the whole pigmeat production chain,
from animal feed manufacture to meat processing and distribution.
Assured British Pigs operates in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, but in Scotland, pig farm assurance is provided by SPII (Scottish Pig Industry Initiative) under the control of QMS (Quality Meat Scotland).
Assured British Pigs products carry the Little Red Tractor stamp. This
ensures consumers that it has been produced to stringent standards that
are independently inspected.
